LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) – A community is still in shock after the death of a Langley girl in a crash this weekend, just before her 16th birthday.

Lidia Ramos was in the backseat of a car that went out of control and hit a tree. Police believe speed was a factor in the crash.

Today is the first day back for her classmates at Brookswood Secondary. A room has been set up there for Ramos’ friends to remember the person she was.

“There’s a room set up with some posters and some candles,” says one student. “A lot of people have been going in there and… celebrating her life and thinking of the positive times.”

“[She was] a pretty nice person. Helpful and just all around a good person,” says another.

The Langley School District is bringing in counsellors for those who need support.

“We would mobilize a team of counsellors that would be going to the school communities and providing support for the students and staff,” says Ken Hoff with the district.

“Of course, our first priority is to support the family and the school communities that are affected… A lot of supports are in place now.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Ramos family pay for the girl’s funeral.
