MISSION (NEWS 1130) – The family of a woman killed in Mission nearly seven years ago is frustrated by another delay in getting closure.
The fourth man charged in the deaths of Lisa Dudley and Guthrie McKay has seen his trial pushed back from February of next year to September.
Despite the killings happening in 2008, Tom Holden was only charged in 2013 with two counts of first degree murder.
This is frustrating for Dudley’s family who is still waiting to find out why their daughter was left to die for days without anyone coming to her rescue.
Neighbours called 9-1-1 to report hearing shots fired but the first RCMP officer called to the scene never went to the door.
“It’s a continuing discomfort through the whole thing. We wish there was something that could be done. What can be done? Do we need more judges, more prosecutors, more policeman? I don’t know, it’s just it seems it’s very very slow,” explains Lisa’s stepfather, Mark Saraka.
Because three others have already plead guilty in the case, details have never come out at a trial. Saraka is hoping to find out what happened at Holden’s trial or through an inquest.
“They make promises that they will give us a coroner’s inquest but we can’t have one until the criminal trials have been completed. With this delay, that’s pushing it again and again further away.”
Holden is accused of hiring someone to kill Dudley over a marijuana grow-op.
Dudley was eventually found bleeding and tied to a chair, she died on her way to hospital. MacKay was already dead.
