MISSION (NEWS 1130) – BC SPCA officers say they were pepper sprayed by the owners of some animals that were seized in Mission yesterday.
Officers took 25 animals in total including pigs, goats, turkeys, horses, a miniature horse, a miniature pony and two dogs.
“The animals were suffering from a wide range of medical conditions due to neglect,” says Senior Animal Protection Officer Eileen Drever. “Issues included serious malnourishment, parasites, skin and eye conditions, lice, flared hooves and heavy matting.”
Drever says the property was also partially covered in hazardous debris. The animals are now being care for at the agency’s Surrey office.
The owners have been arrested and the SPCA says the investigation continues as it looks to recommend animal cruelty charges.
