MISSION (NEWS 1130) – For the second time in less than three weeks, a hiker has been badly hurt after plummeting off a waterfall in the Mission area.

Brent Burdeyny with Mission Search and Rescue says they were called out on Saturday for a hiker who wound up pinned between two rocks at the bottom of the falls.

“She sustained probably about four compound fractures to her leg and a laceration on her leg, and possibly some head trauma as well,” he says.

She was airlifted out and is expected to recover, but Burdeyny says she and the hiker who fell two weeks ago are lucky it wasn’t much worse.

“The rocks are very slippery. They’re lucky to be alive – the ones that have fallen. It’s surprising that the injuries they have sustained aren’t life-threatening.”

He says it took half an hour to carry the woman to a spot where the air ambulance could pick her up.
