MISSION (NEWS 1130) – Kids in cities all over the Lower Mainland have enjoyed some extra time off from school this week thanks to the ice and snow. So what about that lost time in the classroom?

Students in Mission have been off all week, something that hasn’t happened in nearly thirty years. Yet Superintendent Angus Wilson says there isn’t much worry about getting through the curriculum, adding there are a few days built into the calendar for unexpected closures.

“Teachers are very good at adapting and being flexible and going okay, this little assignment or activity or frill or something like that, we’re going to cut through that or shorten that up so we can get to this more important core piece here and so on.’

Wilson adds the district will be checking in with the local high school about whether any adjustments need to be made.

“So we’ll be checking in with the Secondary school principal and the department heads about anything they need or adjustments because we can do things within the timetable as well to expand something or shorten something for a couple days if that is what’s necessary.”

Meantime, in Surrey, the district says while there is more pressure to get the most out of each day, it doesn’t expect any problems getting through the curriculum.
