MISSION (NEWS 1130) – The federal and provincial governments have announced a joint investment to upgrade a major local thoroughfare.
Almost $42 million will be used to widen just over three kilometres of Lougheed Highway from two lanes to four lanes and to install a concrete median between Silverdale Avenue and Nelson Street.
The province is hopeful these changes will help make the roadway safer.
“This major investment in Highway 7 through Mission will benefit local businesses, residents and tourists alike, while helping to foster long-term prosperity across the region,” says Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon MP Jati Sidhu.
“Mission is a growing and thriving community, and Highway 7 traffic through Mission is comprised of local residents, along with commercial goods movers, people travelling from other parts of BC, and tourists visiting our beautiful region,” adds Maple Ridge-Mission MLA Marc Dalton.
Today’s announcement is part of a bigger $70 million infrastructure strategy for the area.
The province says the upgrades should be done by winter 2018/19 and it’s expected to create more than 200 jobs.
